Everyday Faith

You may not realize it, but you use faith everyday. It takes faith to get out of bed because the activity of your limbs is not a given. It takes faith to use transportation, whether you are driving or using public transportation because getting to your destination is not a given. It takes faith to order food from a restaurant because safe preparation of the food we consume is not a given. As you can see, we use faith more often than we think. This is the level of dependency that God wants us to have when it comes to our relationship with Him. He wants you and I to trust him without doubt. It's vital that we trust God for the impossible as well as in the everyday, mundane moments of life. We can trust God with the monumental and the mundane. This is why the Bible says "without faith, it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6). Here are 3 practical ways to build your faith everyday:

1. Schedule time with God. I recommend starting out with five minutes. Take one minute to pray and ask God to speak to you. The next minute you read a verse. The next minute you reflect upon the verse. The next minute you write down your thoughts. Finally, you pray for the rest of your day. Check out this video on Incorporating God into your Daily Life.

2. Listen to encouraging messages. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). By listening to God's word, it builds your confidence in God's ability to move on your behalf. Your focus will be on what you can do with Christ and you will spend less time focusing on what you can not do.This will cause you to be more productive throughout your day.

3. Trust God with the small things. This allows your faith to grow in an organic way. Practical faith grows one step at a time, one day at a time until eventually you mature in your faith.

By incorporating these three things into your daily life, your faith will come alive in a real and tangible way. As the old story goes, we trust chairs to hold our body weight. That requires faith, but it is a faith that you do not question or doubt. It is a faith that just does. That is the goal of practical faith. Practical, everyday faith just does what the Word of God says to do. We don’t have to have a mystical, complicated relationship with God. We can have a real, practical relationship, one where we have conversations and spend time with the God of the Universe. What an awesome privilege we have. The question becomes; will you take advantage of this awesome opportunity? As always, stay rooted in God.

Verse of Week:

"And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

-Matthew 21:22 ESV
