Divine Protection

Updated: Feb 15, 2021

Life can be dangerous to your physical, mental and spiritual health. The good news is that we have Divine Protection from above. Specifically, Isiah 54:17a says “no weapon formed against us will prosper". A weapon is anything designed to inflict harm upon you. When I am feeling afraid or nervous because of the obstacles I face, I have the assurance that I have a God who is on my side to fight for me. Here is what the text doesn’t say “no weapon will not form against you”. If we are being honest, that is what we really want. We do not want any weapons to form at all. We think; if God is all powerful, why can’t He stop the weapon from forming at all? The answer is simple, the obstacles we encounter teach us different lessons about God.

Physical dangers can include your safety on the highway as you travel or keeping your home safe from theft and vandalism. God protects us from physical dangers both seen and unseen. I am reminded of a time in 2 Kings 6:15-23 where Elisha’s servant is afraid of the physical danger he appeared to be in. Then Elisha said to him “Don’t be afraid! Those who are with us are more than those who are with them”. Elisha was speaking of the warrior angels that protect us from unforeseen dangers. Those same angels keep watch over us. That is a reason to give God thanks.

Mental dangers are perhaps the most trying of them all. Our minds are a battleground! The enemy loves to make us doubt, fear, and question everything. The enemy wants you to doubt your abilities, God’s love for you, and your potential. The enemy wants you to fear the unknown. The enemy wants you to question if your life has meaning and if all your hard work will pay off. I am reminded of 2 Timothy 1:7 where it says “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind". God’s spirit resides in us to help protect our minds.

Spiritual dangers are not so obvious and are more subtle in nature. It starts with a lack of desire to hear the Word of God. Then it moves to a lack of desire to pray. Then eventually you don’t even think about God’s will for your life. It is often never intentional, it just happens gradually over time. You wake up one day exhausted, in mental turmoil, feeling hopeless, all because you have neglected to spend time with God. God desires to be apart of every aspect of your life. Please go watch my YouTube video on “How to Incorporate God Into your Everyday Life” for practical ways to do this.

God’s protection is something we should never take for granted! We have to be aware of God’s presence in our lives because it gives us the confidence necessary to move forward in faith! Remember God is more concerned with your safety than you are! Be sure to thank God for his protection this day and as always, stay rooted!

Verse of the Week:

No weapon formed against you will succeed, and you will refute any accusation raised against you in court. This is the heritage of the Lord’s servants, and their righteousness is from Me.”This is the Lord’s declaration.

Isaiah 54:17 (HCSB)
